The VIA DEI PRINCIPI includes several archaeological sites of the necropolis at Tarquinia, characterized by high valued landscapes.

Starting from the Museo Nazionale Archeologico, by car or on foot, you will reach the suggestive funerary area of the Doganaccia (about 3 km), landmark of the Via dei Principi, dominated by a towering pair of large mounds. From the Barriera S. Giusto (parking area) go down to the roundabout and turn left towards the direction of Necropoli etrusca-Viterbo. Proceed to the Necropoli del Calvario; continue on the Strada Provinciale Monterozzi and, passed the modern cemetery, after 500 meters turn right on the old road “della Madonna del Pianto” (follow signs). Get off and turn right to the necropolis (on the left with parking area).

From the Doganaccia is then possible to reach, by car or on foot, the Tumulo Luzi in the Infernaccio area, about one kilometre away. You can reach the tomb, marked by an impressive entrance with a flight of steps intended to house the funerary rites and ceremonies, following the old road “della Madonna del Pianto”: out of the Doganaccia, turn left and continue for 700 meters; at the big crossroad, turn left again (follow the signs) in via R. Follerau. Then, at the second road, turn right and then take the first left (access to the tomb is to the right).

From the Doganaccia, in the opposite direction, you can reach, either on foot or by car, the mounds of Arcatelle-Secondi Archi with the Tomba delle Pantere, the most ancient painted tomb at Tarquinia. Continuing right along the road “della Madonna del Pianto”, you will arrive at the crossroad with the Provinciale Monterozzi.
By car: follow signs and turn right until the crossroad with the Statale Aurelia-bis. Then turn left towards Viterbo and, after more than 100 meters, take the left road which crosses the suggestive necropolis of Secondi Archi until the funerary sector of the Tomba delle Pantere (little road on the right). After the visit you can turn right towards the modern cemetery and Tarquinia: the ridge road, lined with ancient burial mounds, is notable for the delightful landscape towards the sea.
On foot: from the crossroad with the Provinciale Monterozzi, turn right and then walk up along the little road on the left (follow signs) until the highest part of the Monterozzi necropolis, then right again until the little road of the Tomba delle Pantere.

Two other magnificent princely tombs are situated in the hinterland of Tarquinia, on the Poggio Gallinaro (near La Civita) and on the Poggio del Forno (in the locality of Turchina, towards Monte Romano). The two places, currently not included in the equipped archaeological itinerary, are immersed in a still intact environment and can be reached following the Statale Aurelia-bis.
